The annual international Children and Youth Photo Contest and Festival shall raise awareness to important environmental issues through the eyes of children. It unites children and youth from around the world to promote public awareness and inspire adults to take action. Participants' challenge is to cultivate an environmental connection through imagery. It's a unique opportunity to explore photography as an artistic medium that addresses crucial issues, bringing them to families, professionals, decision-makers, and the international community at large.

On May 19, inspired by the success of previous exhibitions, IDEA Campaign teamed up with its national partners including Baku Museum of Modern Arts, the “Qiz Qalasi” Art Gallery, Baku Magazine, and Ichari Shahar State Historical and Architectural Reserve and organized the “Big Five” exhibition in the framework of the Third International Maiden Tower Festival.

The center is aimed at hosting short and long term training courses, seminars, roundtables and lectures on environmental topics both for students and specialists in this field. During the opening ceremony it was mentioned that the center will be a useful place for students during their leisure time, as well as throughout the academic year. Well equipped resource center includes designated areas specifically for reading, researching and discussions, as well as for getting some rest.

On April 27, 2012, the award ceremony of winners was organized at Hilton Baku hotel. Speaking at the event, Deputy Economic Development Minister Mr. Niyazi Safarov stressed the importance of forming the green thinking and psychology among young people. He said: “Today’s event is remarkable. The 21st century is marked with great environmental issues. In this view it is important to encourage green thinking young people”.

IDEA, founded in July 2011, is an initiative that strongly supports dialogue and action among youth in addressing global environmental problems. One of the main directions of its activities is the acknowledgement of the role of early education in ensuring peoples’ environmental-friendly behavior and actions. For this purpose, IDEA has been engaged in numerous projects in middle schools and universities, including round-table discussions, environmental essay and design contests, tree-planting, mass clean-ups, workshops and awareness-raising campaigns. In order to ensure a better understanding of life sustainability, balance of nature, ecosystems, biodiversity, climate change and other vital environmental issues among young people, IDEA is announcing a new book writing project.

In spring 2012 during the renovation works at the Maiden Tower, – the main landmark of Baku and a 12th century cultural monument, - workers came across numerous bird nests. Flocks of swifts, highly aerial birds, had built approximately 200 nesting sites on the monument. The reconstruction work could not be ceased, but the start of the conservation process on the Maiden Tower threatened the existence of these nests.
