With the initiative of IDEA Public Union, the seminar on the theme of “Transition to the use of alternative and renewable energy resources: the world experience and implemented activities and perspectives in Azerbaijan” was held at the IDEA Resource Center at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on December 4-5, 2014.

On April 16, with the participation of the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, Leyla Aliyeva, as part of the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World," an event to plant trees was held on a vacant lot near the intersection of Mikail Aliyev and Kamil Balakishiev streets in the Nizami district of the capital.

Baku city joined the first nationwide Green Marathon project that was launched on 5th of November 2014. More than 10,000 trees were planted in 53 districts of Azerbaijan.

In terms of the total number of species, the flora of Azerbaijan is much richer, in contrast to other republics of the South Caucasus. The plant species found in the republic make up 66% of the total number growing in the Caucasus.
The distribution of the animal kingdom in Azerbaijan is determined by the relief, changes in corresponding vegetation, and the presence of water bodies. The country's fauna comprises 14,000 species of insects, 104 species of fish, 11 species of amphibians, 63 species of reptiles, 405 species of birds, and 115 species of mammals.
It is known that usable water resources within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan are limited and unevenly distributed. Outside the country, there are 21 million cubic meters of water reserves with an average annual volume of 36 million cubic meters.
