Upon the invitation of the founder and head of IDEA Public Union Leyla Aliyeva, on 19-22 October 2015, the Director of Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU) - part of the University of Oxford’s Department of Zoology - and a world-renowned expert on conservation of biodiversity Professor David Macdonald was on a visit to Azerbaijan.

On 16 October 2015, as part of IDEA’s educational programme, a scientific seminar titled “Environmental Management” was organized at the IDEA Resource Center for the students of the Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Baku Higher Oil School, Academy of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, National Aviation Academy of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Technical University, Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry and Azerbaijan State Marine Academy. In the course of the seminar, Elman Yusifov, a prominent expert on the protection of biodiversity, shared interesting facts on various fields of environmental science with the participants.

On 17 October 2015, the tenth regular training session was held at the Resource Center located at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan within the framework of the “Ecological laboratory for children” project, jointly carried out by IDEA Public Union and “Sevimli Bala”. The October session of the Laboratory was dedicated to the subject of organic and healthy foods.

On 9 October 2015, two residents of the Astara district, namely Natiq Nabi oglu Boyukaghazade, born on 22.10.1995, and Samad Yagub oglu Farajov, born on 01.01.1995, were detained by the State Border Service officials, while trying to sell the pelt of the leopard hunted down on the territory of Astara.

On October 6th, the participants had an opportunity to apply the obtained theoretical knowledge first-hand. Thus, the youth that traveled to the Shirvan National Park have directly participated in the practical outdoor activities (observing various bird species, conducting counts, compiling reports, etc.). After getting acquainted with the area, the participants received on-site instructions regarding the bird count.
