The World's Greatest Lesson Project is Being Implemented in Azerbaijan

IDEA Public Union, the Azerbaijan Delegation of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the Ministry of Education are partnering to implement the World's Biggest Lesson project, dedicated to promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in several secondary schools across the country.

On September 25, 2015, world leaders adopted the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this regard, the "World's Biggest Lesson" project was introduced with the support of UNICEF and other organizations. The aim of the project is to conduct lessons about the Global Goals in schools worldwide every year starting from the end of September. The purpose of the lessons in Azerbaijan is to increase students' knowledge on various topics, including climate change. The lessons focus on the impact of climate change and how children can develop ways to protect their environment. Classes are conducted using educational materials developed for the project.

To hold these classes in schools across the country, IDEA and UNICEF prepared and published the necessary materials in Azerbaijani. Starting from September 24, training sessions on teaching The World's Greatest Lesson will be organized for teachers from 20 secondary schools in Baku and Khachmaz, with the participation of the Institute of Professional Development of Educational Workers of the Ministry of Education. After the training, these teachers will conduct the lessons with their students. At the end of the project, participating schools will be marked on the world map on the "World's Largest Lesson" website. The initiative will conclude with a closing ceremony featuring high-level representatives from the Ministry of Education, UNICEF, and IDEA.

Millions of children and young people from more than 130 countries have been informed about the SDGs, including the environmental, social, and economic challenges and targets, and have learned how they can participate in achieving them.
