The School Gardens Project has been Successfully Sompleted
Initiated on March 17 by the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Union, and FAO Goodwill Ambassador Leyla Aliyeva, the "School Gardens" project has been successfully completed.
Within the framework of the "School Gardens" project, jointly implemented by the IDEA Public Union, FAO, and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, fruit trees have been planted in the courtyards of five secondary schools in each district of the republic.
The goal of the project is to promote the use of ecologically healthy food among students and the effective use and greening of schoolyards.
It should be noted that since 2015, the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, Leyla Aliyeva, has been a FAO Goodwill Ambassador. Key directions of FAO's work include combating hunger worldwide, ensuring food security, and creating healthy food systems.
Prioritizing environmental education and awareness-raising, the IDEA Public Union has already implemented several projects with the Ministry of Education to engage the younger generation in nature conservation efforts, positively impact the ecological situation of educational institutions, and enhance students' knowledge about the environment.
In the tree planting campaigns organized under the "School Gardens" project, about 20,000 fruit trees, including apple, pear, cherry, plum, walnut, hazelnut, pomegranate, persimmon, almond, and quince, have been planted in over 300 schools, tailored to the climate and soil cover of each district.
