The Nature Keeper Eco-scout Camp was Held in Shahdag National Park.
From July 17 to 19, an eco-scout camp called "Nature Keeper" was organized in Shahdag National Park by the IDEA Public Union, the Association of Scouts of Azerbaijan, and supported by the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The aim of the camps, organized within the framework of IDEA's eco-scout program, is to inform young people about the rich nature of Azerbaijan, endangered flora and fauna, nature conservation, economical and proper use of resources provided by nature, and to educate young people about appropriate behavior in the wild, as well as environmental protection – promoting recreation without harm.
The camp was joined by 100 young people aged 18 to 25 with environmental education or experience in this field, as well as environmental activism.
An ecological tour was organized in Shahdag National Park with the participation of young people who voluntarily joined. The youth were informed about the main purpose of creating Shahdag National Park, the types of landscapes characteristic of this area, flora and fauna included in the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the Caucasian bison reintroduced to Azerbaijan from French and Belgian zoos.
During the three-day camp, training sessions on biodiversity and national parks of Azerbaijan were conducted for the youth, including workshops and practical sessions, competitions and contests on setting up tents in nature, providing first aid, necessary supplies, and safe clothing for the wild. There were also youth hikes, exchanges on interesting environmental topics, and participation in ecology-related games.
A hike to Lake Garanohur, known for its rich nature and landscapes, was organized during the camp.
At the end of the camp, souvenirs and certificates were presented to the participants.
It should be noted that the IDEA Public Union's "Eco-Scout" project started in March 2017. The goal of the project is to engage young people in nature conservation, in-depth study and protection of the living world, and participation in beneficial environmental work in the community. The first camp within the framework of the "Eco-Scout" project was held in May of last year in Shirvan, followed by camps in Aghgol and Goygol National Parks.
For the purpose of environmental education, reducing and gradually eliminating the damage caused to nature as a result of human activities, as well as promoting ethical behavior towards nature, eco-scout camps are planned to be held in other national parks of our country.
