The Earth Hour Campaign to be Held in Several Cities of Azerbaijan with the Support of the IDEA Campaign

On March 31st at 8:30 PM, hundreds of millions of people worldwide will come together for Earth Hour, turning off their electricity for one hour.

The Earth Hou" campaign was first held in 2007 in Sydney. Every year, on the last Saturday of March, the lights of iconic buildings in major cities participating in the campaign are turned off for one hour. This demonstrates the participants' solidarity in protecting nature and combating climate change.

During the campaign, the illumination of such magnificent structures as the Eiffel Tower, the Egyptian pyramids, Buckingham Palace, the Sydney Opera House, and other renowned buildings is turned off for one hour. This year, 5,000 cities from 147 countries will join the campaign.

It is worth noting that Azerbaijan first participated in this campaign in 2011, becoming one of the 120 countries supporting the global initiative. This year, the Earth Hour campaign will be implemented in several cities across the country with the support of IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action). In Baku, in the Inner City State Historical-Architectural Reserve, as part of the effort to support planet preservation, the lights of landmarks such as the Maiden Tower, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Park Boulevard, Hilton Hotel, Bridge Plaza, and Azerbaijan Technical University will be turned off for one hour. In addition to the capital, Ganja, Lankaran, and Lahij will also participate in the campaign.

The largest Earth Hour event in the country will take place on March 31st at 8:00 PM with the turning off of the Maiden Tower lights.
