Stray Dog Sterilization Campaign Held at the IDEA Animal Care Center

On November 15, at the initiative of the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva, and organized by the IDEA Animal Care Center Public Union, with the support of Tamiz Shahar JSC, a campaign was launched in Baku’s Balakhani settlement to mass sterilize, vaccinate, and tag stray dogs. Veterinarians from Germany, who have traveled to our country on a volunteer basis, are also participating in the event. The campaign, which will continue until November 24, is being held at the veterinary clinic of the IDEA Animal Care Center.

As is known, the Balakhani settlement in Baku, particularly the household waste landfill owned by Tamiz Shahar JSC and the shelter for stray dogs of the Housing and Communal Services Department of the Baku City Executive Authority, are areas with the highest concentration of street dogs. Therefore, during the campaign, dogs in these areas will be sterilized.

The rapid increase in the population of stray pets in Baku and its surroundings causes many problems, including posing a threat to the health of humans and animals. It should be noted that a single female dog and her offspring can produce up to 67,000 puppies in just seven years.

The CVNR method (capture-neuter-vaccinate-return), applied in many countries, is the most effective and humane way to regulate the number of stray animals and ensure their welfare. For this reason, the IDEA Animal Care Center, since its inception, has been actively engaged in sterilizing and vaccinating animals to prevent their uncontrolled reproduction and rabies infection.
