Compared to previous years, snake attacks have been increased lately. Therefore, IDEA calls on everyone to stay cautious when travelling to areas where snake encounter may occur.
If you encounter a snake, back away slowly. Never try to catch or pick up a snake. When hiking, it is best to carry a long sturdy stick to help prevent using your hands in areas where snakes may hide. Reptiles usually remain hidden beneath dried tree trunks, do not try to pick or turn them, or sit on the ground in these places. Also, carefully examine the tree trunk or the rock before you sit on it.
