Seminar held on Endangered and Recently Discovered Flora Species of Azerbaijan
On 14-15 April 2015, a scientific-practical seminar titled “Endangered and Recently Discovered Flora Species of Azerbaijan” was held at IDEA Public Union’s Resource Center.
The seminar, which consisted of theoretical and practical parts, was attended by more than 30 young people studying or working in the fields of ecology, biology and related areas.
The theoretical part of the seminar featured a lecture by an expert of the Institute of Botany of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The lecture focused on Azerbaijan’s rare, endemic and endangered plant species as well as ornamental, medicinal and economically important plants.
The practical part of the seminar included a visit to the Institute of Botany’s botanical garden, herbarium fund, museum and laboratory.
The young participants of the seminar got acquainted with the laboratory equipment and its operation, took part in some experiments and had an opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge they had obtained from the lecture. Moreover, the young experts learned about ways to grow plants in lab conditions and reproduce plants species facing the threat of extinction.
The two-day long seminar enjoyed great interest of the youth and offered them useful theoretical and practical knowledge.
