Leyla Aliyeva Meets with UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Ghulam Isaczai
Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, met with Ghulam Isaczai, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, who also serves as the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The meeting discussed new cooperation opportunities between IDEA and UN agencies, including prospects for joint activities in implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing environmental issues.
There was also an exchange of views on a project implemented with the support of the UNDP aimed at improving management in coastal ecological systems within Azerbaijan's specially protected natural areas.
The project's objective is to establish and effectively manage specially protected natural areas to preserve Azerbaijan's unique and rare biological diversity. It should be noted that the reconstruction and improvement work carried out in the Gizilaghaj State Nature Reserve Complex as part of this project will result in the creation of the region's first specially protected marine area in Azerbaijan.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue and further strengthen cooperation on environmental issues, sustainable development, and other areas.
