Leyla Aliyeva: Excellent programs and campaigns for environmental protection have been launched in Azerbaijan
On June 30, a special session on "New Leaders of the Future" was held in Baku as part of the Crans Montana Forum.
The event was attended by the First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva, and Vice-President of the Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva. At the event, moderated by Professor Daniel Varner of the Scientific Council of the Crans Montana Forum, reports were presented, and fruitful discussions were held on the topics of "The Role of Future Leaders in a Changing World" and "The Impact of Globalization on the Environment."
“I would like to welcome you to our beautiful city of Baku. I hope you have an interesting time here.
I would like to speak on a very important topic—the role of the youth of Azerbaijan and the world in general in environmental protection. I would like to discuss the role of future leaders in ensuring sustainable development,” said Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, at the meeting.
Leyla Aliyeva noted that sustainable development in the world has made the issue of environmental protection relevant.
“To ensure this, it is very important to hold a number of events. Today's environmental problems both divide nations and do not allow their interests to be fully met. Therefore, it is very important that the natural resources of each country are properly managed. This is also of great importance from the point of view of climate change. These issues can have both positive and negative impacts on our lives. Therefore, we must be able to manage these changes correctly. The fact that the processes of change are taking place in the environment makes the role of the younger generation in this area even more important,” she said.
According to her, excellent programs and campaigns have been launched in Azerbaijan to protect the environment.
“We invite young people and all people to join these campaigns. This work is, of course, carried out on the principles of dialogue, leadership, and education, to serve the entire nation. This is also very important for the protection of the environment and ensuring sustainable development. Regional and international connections are important to ensure cooperation and take action in this direction around the world.
As you know, nine of the eleven climate types are found in Azerbaijan. This makes the nature of Azerbaijan very rich. We face very important tasks for the preservation of the rich nature of Azerbaijan. These include environmental protection, prevention of pollution of water and nature, and their conservation. Young people are actively involved in solving all these issues that concern us.
A week ago, at meetings in Geneva, I raised all these issues. I stated that these issues are very important for Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region.
Environmental issues are very important to us. Therefore, I believe that these issues should start being taught in classrooms. I think this will allow children to receive information about the protection of nature in their countries from an early age. It seems to me that this will be of great importance in responding to environmental challenges,” said Leyla Aliyeva in her speech.
Leyla Aliyeva emphasized that a clean environment starts with a clean and honest society.
A representative of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan noted that future leaders will play an important role in a changing world.
The representative of the Presidential Administration noted that more than 66 percent of the population of Azerbaijan is under 30 years old and emphasized the important role of youth in the socio-political life of the country. He stated that according to the State Program "Education of Azerbaijani Youth Abroad for 2007-2015," more than 15,000 Azerbaijani students are planned to be sent abroad for study. The head of the department noted that special attention and care is given to young people, and all conditions have been created for the free use of modern technology.
He emphasized that young people are the force that leads Azerbaijan to a successful future and elevates the political and economic potential of the country to a new level. Therefore, youth policy is one of the priorities of the state in Azerbaijan.
Speakers at this session, organized within the framework of the Crans Montana Forum, emphasized the importance of the discussed current issues and noted the need for such important events, where important appeals are made to young people, to be held frequently.
