Let’s protect gazelle! - Environmental Summer Camp 2017

IDEA, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani representative office of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) organized the action "Let's Protect the Goitered Goitered Mountains!" An ecological summer camp has opened. The camp will be organized on June 21-23 in the Salyan district with the participation of more than 60 schoolchildren from the villages of Yenikend, Shekarli, Kursangi, Kurgaragagly and Tatarmahalla of the Neftchala region.

The main goal of the ecological summer camp "Let's protect goitered gazelles!" — to familiarize the younger generation living in areas of gazelle reintroduction, including those close to their natural habitat, about this species. During the camp, participants will receive extensive information about the lifestyle of goitered gazelles, their distribution areas and their role in nature. Children will also take part in various small environmental studies, quizzes and competitions. They will watch the documentary "Saving the Goitered Goitered" and will be organized an excursion to the Shirvan National Park to get to know the goitered gazelles in person. At the end, camp participants will be awarded certificates and souvenirs.

The program “Return of goitered gazelles to historical habitats in the Caucasus” was launched by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in 2010 and is currently being successfully implemented within the framework of joint cooperation between the IDEA Public Association, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the WWF Representative Office in Azerbaijan. Over the years, more than 150 gazelles have been reintroduced from the Shirvan National Park to historically inhabited places in Azerbaijan and Georgia, and they are constantly monitored and protected.

Camps on environment and biodiversity have been organized annually since 2014 by the IDEA Public Association, the Azerbaijani representative office of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During this period, more than 300 schoolchildren from Goranboy, Samukh, Gakh, Sheki, Masalli, Jalilabad, Yardimli, Lankaran, and Astara regions took part in the camps.
