In Connection with International Coastal Cleanup Day, a Cleanup Event was Organized
On September 14th, the IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, "Tamiz Shahar" JSC, and the Baku Transport Agency jointly conducted another traditional coastal cleanup event.
The event, dedicated to International Coastal Cleanup Day and the end of the beach season, was held at the public beach of Buzovna city on the initiative of the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, Leyla Aliyeva. The participation of over 400 young people in this event demonstrates the great interest in this work.
The main goal of the event is to promote cleanliness on the seaside, prevent littering of coastal areas with household waste, and engage youth in the fight for the protection of the marine environment.
In August of this year, IDEA initiated the creation of public beaches as an alternative to existing private resorts and paid beaches in the coastal areas of the capital. On IDEA's initiative, six public beaches have been opened in the areas of Shykh, Goradil, Novkhany, Buzovna, Pirshagi, and Sahil for public use. These beaches are equipped with seating, sanitary facilities, volleyball courts, and trash bins to provide a comfortable, clean, and safe place for people to relax for free.
The cleanup event, held under the slogan "Keep the Shores Clean," is the 14th such event on the shores of the Caspian Sea with massive youth participation. During the event, participants, equipped with necessary sanitary equipment, collected around 3 tons of trash from the beach to the sound of music played by DJs. Afterward, the trash was sorted and the most commonly observed litter on the beaches was identified. Special equipment was brought to the site to organize the waste collection process more effectively.
IDEA, together with local and international partners, regularly organizes coastal cleanups of the Caspian Sea, Kur River, and other rivers to preserve, increase, and protect Azerbaijan's aquatic bioresources. IDEA calls on all nature lovers not to remain indifferent to actions aimed at solving environmental problems and to contribute to the protection of the environment.
