IDEA launches Eco-scout project

On 27 March 2018, IDEA presented its new Eco-scout project at Zire Cultural Center.

The goal of the project is to attract more Azerbaijani young people in the protection of environment, inspire sustainable use of resources and raise knowledge and awareness for wildlife protection.

The project is a great opportunity for young people to engage in environmental issues, find solutions to the most pressing challenges that threaten our planet and become a leader of this environmental movement.

As a starting point, the project was first presented to the eco-clubs of Baku schools at IDEA’s Resource Center in Zire Cultural Center. The new eco-scouters were given information about the project, commitments to the aims and purposes of eco scouting, as well as the terms and conditions for participation and earning points.

Each participant of the program receives a membership card used to collect points as well as an eco-scout badge, hat and backpack. Upon joining the club, a member gets the title of "Young Environmentalist" and is subsequently upgraded to a higher status with more points he or she earns. Eco-scout points are earned by completing a range of environmental activities. Those who collect enough points to pass each level are awarded with gifts from IDEA.

At the end of the presentation session, the young people voluntarily signed up for the Club and became the very first members to pledge to the Eco-scout oath. Later, they watched IDEA’s documentary film about Shirvan National Park, filmed as part of the project “Nine wonders of Azerbaijan”, and planted flowers in the Eco-park of Zire Cultural Center.

A website platform will soon be launched for registration to the Eco-scout.
