IDEA Launched the Construction of a Shelter and Rescue Center for Homeless Animals
On October 9, 2014 Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder of IDEA laid the foundation stone of the new animal shelter and rescue center, initiated by IDEA in Qaradagh district, Baku.
Mrs. Aliyeva was informed about the new shelter, which will possess favorable conditions for temporary and permanent settlement of homeless and companion animals.
The Center will contain a well-equipped veterinary clinic to treat animals and perform veterinary surgery in case of necessity.
The Center will also feature a modern Training and Education facility supplied with the latest technologies. Trainings and professional development courses for local veterinarians, as well as visits of schoolchildren and students will be organized in this facility.
Combining the latest experience of developed countries, design of the center allows hosting up to 5000 animals, especially cats and dogs. Center will also offer check-up and treatment services for other animal species (horses, some bird species etc.), that are not often met in urban environment.
The purpose of establishing the abovementioned center is to reduce the number of homeless animals in Baku and nearby, to prevent their slaughter and prevent passing of the dog-driven diseases such as rabies to humans.
