Fruit Orchards Established for Low-Income Families in Shamkir
During a tree-planting campaign, 1,200 fruit trees were planted on a 2.5-hectare plot of land allocated by the Shamkir District Executive Authority. The fruit orchard was divided among low-income families residing in the Shamkir district, including families of Karabakh war veterans and martyrs, and provided for their free use. These families will have the opportunity to care for the fruit orchards, harvest the produce, and thereby improve their material well-being. Representatives of the Shamkir District Executive Authority also participated in this campaign.
The establishment of fruit orchards for low-income families will be organized in October and November in the districts of Gakh, Sabirabad, Beylagan, Lankaran, Agdash, Tovuz, and Aghstafa, and in the future, in other regions of the country. In the initial phase of the project, it is planned to plant nearly 9,000 fruit trees, including hazelnuts, pomegranates, apricots, feijoas, and persimmons.
The socio-economic significance of the project lies in the fact that the creation of such orchards will contribute not only to improving the well-being of the population but also to reducing the country's dependence on imports of agricultural products.
It should be noted that the pilot project for planting fruit trees was initiated in April 2017 by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, and Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Within the framework of the project, the first fruit orchard was established in the Ismayilli district and was provided for the free use of three low-income families.
