Educational Excursion to the Sturgeon Factory

On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, observed on May 22nd, IDEA and "Azerbaijan Fish Farming LLC" organized an educational excursion for students of Baku State University to the sturgeon fish farm located in the Neftchala district.

During the event, graduate students and faculty members from the biology department of BSU were introduced to the process of producing environmentally friendly and beneficial seafood through sustainable methods. The participants were presented with extensive information on aquaculture fishing and sturgeon breeding, followed by a tour of the farm and the marine territory of the Neftchala sturgeon plant.

Currently, the fishery industry in Azerbaijan is undergoing rapid development, with the emergence of farms producing competitive products for the cultivation of various fish species, including sardines, sprats, and salmon, contributing to the restoration of the biodiversity of the Caspian Sea.

"Azerbaijan Fish Farming LLC" is a company that applies modern technologies for breeding sturgeon species and trout in Azerbaijan, as well as for the production of sturgeon caviar, all of which meet international quality standards. The regular release of fish raised in these and other fish farming facilities aims to increase the natural population of endangered species.

Given the threats facing global marine resources due to climate change, pollution, overfishing, and other factors, the development of sustainable fishing is of great importance for the environment, economy, and food security. Therefore, in addition to the development of a modern and environmentally friendly aquaculture sector, there should be extensive public outreach on responsible fishing practices and consumption.

At the initiative of the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the founder and head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva, a number of important initiatives are being implemented through the IDEA Public Association to protect and restore the aquatic fauna of Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region.

It is worth noting that, due to the spawning season, a moratorium on fishing in all water bodies of the country will be in effect from May 1, 2023, until September 1.

In this regard, the IDEA Public Association calls on all citizens to support the protection of fish resources, promote responsible fishing, refrain from actions that hinder the growth of fish resources, and consume only seafood obtained through legal, sustainable, and responsible means.
