Azerbaijan Celebrated Earth Hour 2023 along with the Rest of the World

Campaign participants gathered in Dədə Qorqud Park on March 25th, observing the surrounding lights being turned off at 20:30 with a ceremonial countdown. They also participated in lighting the campaign symbol "60+" with candles and enjoyed a mass entertainment program. During the "Earth Hour 2023" event, which was joined by hundreds of young people, lively flash mobs, dances by famous dance groups in line with the "Earth Hour" concept, prize competitions, non-stop music throughout the event, and other surprises generated great interest among the participants.

Earth Hour is the world's largest environmental movement, mobilizing millions of people to combat climate change. The "Earth Hour" campaign, which began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, as a simple mass switching off of lights, is now celebrated in thousands of cities across most countries worldwide. Every year, during the "Earth Hour" event on the last Saturday of March, facade lights of famous buildings in major cities are turned off for one hour at 20:30 local time.

The IDEA Public Union, the official coordinator of the international "Earth Hour 2023" campaign in Azerbaijan, expresses gratitude to everyone who participated in this year's "Earth Hour" campaign in our country. Special thanks to all institutions and organizations that switched off the lights of their buildings, including the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Heydar Aliyev Center, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Baku City Executive Authority, "Icherisheher" State Historical-Architectural Reserve Department, Seaside Boulevard Department, Baku Olympic Stadium, "Baku Crystall Hall", National Gymnastics Arena, ADA University, "Flame Towers" complex, "Dalga Plaza", "Yeni Hayat Group of Companies" LLC, Nakhchivan State University THIK, Mingachevir Youth House, Pasha Malls, and Pasha Property Management.

Recognizing the seriousness of the threat posed by climate change and the importance of global efforts to combat it, the IDEA Public Union encourages everyone to contribute to solving this issue, to reduce energy consumption and waste, and to show solidarity in achieving the goal of limiting global temperature rise to below 1.5°C.
