An Eco-scout Camp on Guard of Nature was Held in the Hyrcanian National Park

From October 16 to 18, at the initiative of the IDEA Public Association and the Azerbaijan Scout Association with the support of the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, another eco-scouting camp called “Guarding Nature” was organized in the Hirkan National Park.

The goal of the “Guarding Nature” camps is to inform young people about the rich nature of Azerbaijan, endemic flora and fauna, teach them to protect nature, carefully and correctly use its resources, as well as promote correct behavior in the wild, recreation that does not harm the environment.

100 young people aged 18-25 joined the camp and distinguished themselves by their activity.

As part of the participation of volunteers, an eco-tour was organized around the territory of the Hyrkan National Park. The youth were provided with information about the goals of creating the Hyrkan National Park, the protection of relict and endemic plant species of the tertiary period, the protection of typical species of flora and fauna included in the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan, especially about rare leopards, presented by a specialist from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

During the camp, trainings were held on the topic “Home page MI”, as well as training in the use of modern equipment in sports such as mountaineering, methods of getting out of unusual situations and providing first aid to victims in practice, walks to Lake Khanbulag with its picturesque views , orienteering, archery, sports games, zipline flights, extreme overnight stays, environmental competitions and competitions. Participants also took part in master classes on "Home".

At the end of the camp, participants were awarded memorial certificates.

It should be noted that the “Eco-Scout” project of the IDEA Public Association started in March 2017. The goal of the project is to attract young people to nature conservation, deep study and protection of the living world, as well as encourage them to engage in environmental activities in society. The first eco-scout camp session within the framework of the Eco-Scout project was held in May 2018 in the Shirvan National Park, and then in the Aggol, Goygol and Shahdag national parks.

Considering the importance of environmental education, the reduction and gradual elimination of damage to nature caused by human activity, as well as the formation of an ethical attitude towards nature, it is planned to hold eco-scout camps “On Guard of Nature” in other national parks of our country.
