A Large-scale Beach Cleanup was Organized in Azerbaijan
On June 8, a large-scale cleanup campaign was held in our country by the joint organization of the Public Association IDEA, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Youth Foundation of the Republic of Azerbaijan “Tamiz Shaher”. OJSC, Baku Transport Agency and the Representative Office of Azerbaijan to the UN.
Another traditional coastal cleanup event, dedicated to World Environment Day, and also organized in connection with the beginning of the beach season, was organized on the territory of Novkhani beach.
About 1,000 young volunteers, including students of higher and secondary educational institutions, active members of youth organizations and members of the public, joined the action.
The main goal of the event is to promote cleanliness on the seashores, prevent the clogging of coastal areas with household waste, and attract all young people to the fight for the protection of the marine environment.
During the action, the participants, who were provided with the necessary sanitation equipment, jointly sorted the garbage collected from the beach and identified the most observed garbage on the beaches. To organize the waste collection process more efficiently, special equipment was also brought to the site. Later, all waste was delivered to the Balakhani solid waste sorting plant.
After collecting garbage, young people played football, volleyball, badminton, etc. in the cleaned area to the sound of music. tried themselves in such sports, and at the same time won prizes by participating in competitions and interactive games.
The IDEA Public Union, together with local and international partners, regularly organizes actions to clean the banks of the Caspian, Kura and other rivers in order to preserve, increase and protect the aquatic biological resources of Azerbaijan and the region.
The cleanup campaign, carried out under the slogan “Let the shores remain clean,” became the 13th campaign on the shores of the Caspian Sea with the massive participation of young people. As part of these actions, about 60 tons of garbage were collected, sorted and sent for recycling from the shore.
