A Fallow Deer has Given Birth to a Calf in Shahdag National Park
A fallow deer released in Shahdag National Park as part of a reintroduction project has given birth to a calf. The weight of the cub is about 5-6 kilograms. The mother and cub are kept in a closed enclosure in the Ismayilli section of the Shahdag National Park to protect them from predators.
It should be noted that the red deer, listed in the Red Book of Azerbaijan, in the past lived in the forests of the Greater and Lesser Caucasus, as well as the Talysh Mountains, and the tugai forests of the Kura and Araz rivers. . Currently, populations of red deer are found only in the Greater Caucasus. Considering the potential role of this species in the development of forest ecosystems, restoration of its population is very important for our nature.
