A Cleanup Campaign Held at the "Ancient Ganja" Archaeological Complex
On November 4, a cleanup campaign was held at the "Ancient Ganja" archaeological complex, organized by the IDEA Public Union, the "Cavan" Youth Movement Public Union, and the Ganja City Executive Authority, with the support of the "European Youth Capital-2016" Public Union and the Ganja City Youth and Sports Department.
It should be noted that the "Ancient Ganja" area has been declared a protected zone to preserve its historically established area and landscape and to maintain and restore its unique character. The area of Ancient Ganja contains cultural layers and many valuable art pieces dating back to the 9th-17th centuries. Important structures from the medieval period, such as fortress walls, bridges, the Imamzada mausoleum, a millstone (12th century), the Ganja fortress wall, the tomb of Jomard Gassab, and the Ganja fortress (17th century), are located within the Ganja State Historical-Cultural Reserve and are protected.
The purpose of this campaign was to clean the "Ancient Ganja" archaeological complex of household waste, contribute to the protection of archaeological monuments of scientific, historical, and cultural significance, preserve the environmental integrity of the reserve, ensure that our historical heritage is passed on to future generations in a healthy and clean condition, promote cleanliness in public places, and engage all youth in the fight for environmental protection.
More than 400 volunteers from the city of Ganja joined the event. During the cleanup campaign, participants equipped with necessary sanitary supplies collected and sorted the waste. Special equipment was also brought in to make the waste collection process more effective.
Considering the importance of public awareness in tackling environmental issues, the IDEA Public Union, in collaboration with local and international partners, regularly organizes such cleanup campaigns. To preserve, increase, and protect the Caspian Sea's biological resources, cleanup actions are held annually along the Caspian coasts and the country's rivers, with the participation of numerous volunteers.
The IDEA Public Union extends its gratitude to all the volunteers who participated in the event, demonstrating exceptional enthusiasm for environmental protection, as well as to the organizations that supported the campaign. The Union calls on everyone to act sensitively toward nature, avoid polluting the environment, and care for our natural resources.
