A Cleaning Action was Held on the Occasion of International Coastal Cleanup Day
In connection with International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 18, a traditional coastal cleaning action was organized by IDEA Public Union, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Azerbaijan Youth Fund, and "Clean City" OJSC.
Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, more than 100 youth volunteers, and representatives of partner organizations joined the action organized on the territory of Bilgah beach under the slogan "Keep the Coasts Clean".
The main purpose of the event is to promote the observance of cleanliness on the seashores, to prevent the littering of coastal areas with household waste, and to involve all young people in the fight for the protection of the marine environment.
During the event, participants of the action, equipped with the necessary sanitary equipment, sorted the collected waste and identified the most commonly observed garbage on the beaches. In order to organize the waste collection process more effectively, special equipment was also brought to the area. Later, all the waste was handed over to the Balakhani Solid Household Waste Sorting Plant.
It should be noted that at the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder, and head of IDEA Public Union, the cleaning and beautification of neglected coastal areas from waste, creating the necessary conditions for people to relax, improving public health and hygiene, as well as promoting environmental and social responsibility, public beaches have been created in our capital. With the organization of IDEA Public Union, a total of 6 public beaches were made available to the public in the areas of Shikh, Goradil, Novkhani, Buzovna, Pirshagi, and Sahil settlement beaches. To provide people with a comfortable, clean, and safe space completely free of charge, seats and sanitary facilities have been installed on the mentioned beaches. Football and volleyball fields have been built, trash cans have been placed, a rescue station of the Ministry of Emergency Situations has been created, and as many canopies, changing rooms, and shower cabins as needed have been installed.
This year, more than 50 million volunteers from more than 180 countries joined the global movement dedicated to International Coastal Cleanup Day. IDEA Public Union expresses its deep gratitude to all the volunteers and partner organizations who actively participated in the organized clean-up actions, who strive to change the world for the better, and who have supported the beautification of our planet.
